Whatsapp Reaches 400 Million Active Users

WhatsApp Reaches 400 Million Active Users

Whatsapp is already one of the most popular ways to communicate with friends on mobile devices, especially when you’re talking cross-platform communication. Today they’re announcing that they’ve reached a new milestone of 400 million active users (meaning the users are using it at least once every month), which is up 100 million from just 4 months ago. This is very impressive growth for a new chat company, in the days of Hangouts and Skype and iMessage, which are all owned by major companies now. However, the chat ecosystem seems to be always reshuffling and evolving, with new players coming into the market and becoming popular every few years or so, one of which seems to be Snapchat, too.

Just like with Snapchat, there were some rumors earlier this year that Google wants to buy Whatsapp for about $1 billion, but it seems the company turned them down. I think it would’ve been worth it for Google to pay even twice as much, considering they wanted to pay four times that amount for Snapchat, which has ten times fewer users (although with higher engagement). On the other hand, it’s probably for the best to not have 2-3 companies owning everything in the tech world, and it’s better to have platforms that are truly cross-platform, and don’t have any conflicts of interests with other platforms.

The thing that I’d criticize about Whatsapp, is that so far they haven’t taken security too seriously. There have been quite a few security issues with Whatsapp in the past, with the recent one happening only two months ago. Governments and other hackers alike, are going to try and obtain that data one way or another, now that Whatsapp has a target painted on their backs, because they have so many users. As long as the data is only secured in-transport, that can be easily intercepted, or Whatspp can be forced to intercept it, so it really doesn’t matter whether they delete it from their servers later or not. I’d like to see them implement end-to-end security, much like TextSecure, which has recently been integrated into Cyanogen, and offer their users true privacy and security (even more so than the “privacy app” Snapchat, which seems to be all the rage these days). Snapchat pales in comparison with TextSecure when it comes to privacy and security, and it’s actually the gold standard in secure messaging today. The good news is that Whatsapp doesn’t even have to replicate its functionality from scratch. TextSecure and its protocol are fully open source, and all they need to do is implement it. Perhaps with a few requests from their users, they may actually do it.

Small Business SEO Orlando | “Google Declare Only 13% Of Tts Revenues In France”

Google France

Google France

Specialized in the estimated 1.4 billion advertising revenues Search Engine SEO agency. With its tax optimization, Google France has said that 193 million euros in turnover in 2012. Generated by Google in France advertising revenue in excess of € 1.4 billion. This figure comes from an estimate made by an agency specializing in SEO Internet. The study, to be published Thursday and obtained by Le Figaro gives a whole new insight into the actual activity of Google France, which reported only 193 million euros turnover in 2012 in France.

The agency VRDCI originally calculation, analyzed for one year from November 2012 to 2013, some 4.2 million keywords likely to be sought by French Internet users. Among these expressions, 3% had an AdWords auction, that is to say a set by advertisers to display prominently in the results and paid advertising on Google every click a visitor. Based on the estimated volume of searches for these terms, the number of clicks and their average cost, the study estimates that Google generates 2.6 million in advertising revenues in France. “This is the accumulated data exact cost AdWords expressions studied” says Antoine Mussard, head of the agency. The total turnover, if the same breakdown of revenues is applied to France in the world, then came to € 3.9 million. Extrapolated over 365 days, it reaches 1,438,933,660 euros.

A figure close to previous estimates

The result is an estimate. The study is based on the average cost advertising tool provided by Google, which is not necessarily the exact cost paid by advertisers final. In addition, the calculation made by a specialist SEO, which sells a better presence in the search engine results without the advertising platform AdWords. However, the estimate falls within the range of other calculations previously with other methods, away from the € 193 million reported by Google France. Tips of the American giant to lower revenues in France are known. The majority of advertisers who spend the advertising platform Google AdWords are charged from Ireland, the European headquarters of the group. French teams that perform a “marketing support” for large customers, receive a commission on advertising revenue, essentially covering their costs.

This tax optimization is scheduled to Google blame the government and a tax investigation. It allowed him to pay only € 6.5 million of corporate tax in France in 2012 , a net profit of € 8.3 million. Most American high-tech groups have implemented similar systems when deployed abroad. Several avenues are being explored to conduct Internet groups to pay taxes according to their actual activity in the countries where they work, especially in the OECD

Small Business SEO Orlando | “Google Buys Boston Dynamics, Gets a Bunch of Scary Robots”

Source     : ABC News

Andy Rubin, former CEO of Android, became talk of the tech town two weeks ago when he said that Google would be starting its own robotics company. Now, he’s making news again as he quietly announced over a tweet that Google bought Boston Dynamics, one of the major robotics companies, on Friday the 13th.  As reported by The New York Times, Google confirmed that it had completed the acquisition of Boston Dynamics on Dec. 13. Marc Raibert, founder of Boston Dynamics, told the Times, “I am excited by Andy and Google’s ability to think very, very big, with the resources to make it happen.”

Google’s Building an Army of Robots

While the name Boston Dynamics might not ring a bell, some of it’s projects might. The company specializes in autonomous animal-like robots that have an uncanny ability to get from point A to point B. SandFlea can leap 30 feet into the air and land on a building’s rooftop, while Cheetah can run morethan 29 miles per hour, faster than Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt.  The company also has robots that resemble humans. Atlas is a walking robot that can navigate rocky and uneven terrain. Some of the finalists in the DARPA Robotics Challenge received an Atlas robot to tinker with.

Google did not reveal how much it paid for Boston Dynamics, nor did it say what the ultimate goal of the robotics division was.
But it’s clear that Google means business and may give Amazon’s delivery drones a run for their money in the race for turning science fiction into reality.

Orlando Local SEO | “SEO Changed Forever In 2013. How To Adjust And Thrive In 2014”

Source    : searchengineland
By              : Jim Yu
Category : Orlando Local SEO, Local SEO Search

If there’s ever been any question that SEO marketers need to put user needs first, 2013 was the year the search engines made it clear. Nearly every innovation in search — algorithm updates like Google Hummingbird, SERP enhancements, social integrations — was aimed at creating a better experience for the searcher. These innovations require SEO marketers to think more closely about the value their content creates for users and to take the technical steps that communicate that value to the search engines. Additionally, with an increasing shift toward mobile, it’s even more important that searchers can quickly find what they are looking for.

Google is leading the way in putting more information on the SERP, better organizing results, and adapting to spoken language. At the same time, Bing has been making innovations in its ability to provide accurate results to users, give more information to webmasters, and optimize for the Windows 8.1 environment. Here are the key innovations in search for 2013 and how to stay ahead of the game as an SEO marketer.

Google Algorithm Updates Promote Better Content

Below is a review of the ways Panda, Penguin and Hummingbird affect SEO and what you can do for better performance.

Panda And Penguin: Fighting Spam For The Greater Good

After 25 tracked encounters with the content-spam-fighting Panda, Google said in March that it would no longer announce Panda updates. Then in May, Google announced the Panda Dance: monthly updates rolled out over a 10-day period. With unannounced updates, it’s harder to tell if you’ve been affected by Panda. Low quality content is no longer worth the trouble, even for short-term gain. The 4th and 5th rounds of the Penguin update took its penalization of linking schemes deeper into the site, addressing more types of links. With Penguin, Google is saying the same thing for links as it is for content: they need to have value, a reason to exist other than to inflate rankings. Google’s ever-broadening definition of spam is beneficial not only for searchers looking for information; it’s beneficial for SEO marketers focused on white-hat tactics and quality content, since it means their sites will rank higher as more spam gets filtered out.

Hummingbird: Semantic Search For The Masses

The rise in mobile, the increasing use of voice search, and the arrival of a new generation of young searchers untrained to search in keywords (partly due to the proliferation of tablets) could be some of the factors leading to Google’s most significant algorithm upgrade to date. While most SEO marketers didn’t see an impact from the Hummingbird updates that were rolled out over a month before the late September announcement, Google’s new ability to effectively address conversational queries and match content based on synonyms further solidified the audience-centric content imperative. Danny Sullivan reported that there’s nothing SEOs need to do differently for Hummingbird: just continue focusing on high-quality content. Creating high-quality content that meets user needs and optimizing it as you go makes SEO a more integral part of a holistic marketing process. To ensure your site doesn’t get hit by a black and white beast or a tiny bird in search of nectar, try these tactics:     Think about topics rather than keywords when considering content creation. What questions does the page answer? Are there synonyms for the topic that can be used on the page? Seek out high-quality partners for linking. Make sure the link is placed in a context that is congruent with the topic. Try to get bad links to your site removed. If that’s not possible, use the Google links disavow tool. Hire qualified, capable partners for both writing and SEO. Just because someone is good at SEO doesn’t mean they can write copy that is clear and compelling, and most writers aren’t trained to do SEO. Ideally, content can be optimized as it’s being created from within the CMS. Foster a teamwork culture for content strategy. Conceptualizing, writing, and placing quality content on Web pages that drive revenue is a team effort.

The SERP Of The Future Is Here: Knowledge Graph

The Knowledge Graph, launched in 2012, takes advantage of the Schema.org alliance formed in 2011 and represents a fundamental shift in how searchers get information. The structured data delivered in results often answers searchers’ questions directly on the SERP or offers them opportunities to better filter the results based on their preferences.  In 2013, Google expanded the scope of Knowledge Graph results, which usually appear on the SERP as an informational box on the right, information below the search box, or a horizontal carousel of results at the top of the SERP.

The outcome is the myriad ways results are now displayed. The Knowledge Graph benefits searchers by allowing them to see the value of a website before they click, or by providing them with the information they need without having to click at all. The local carousel results with images, reviews, and a map provide a richer experience than the previous local-listings pack. In early October, BrightEdge research showed that a carousel appeared on results for 14% of keywords across all industries. It appeared on 33% of searches in Travel and Hospitality, and 27% of searches in the restaurant category. Research has also shown that Google reviews have an impact on placement in the carousel. Since the future SERP is already here, the time to start engaging these capabilities is now. Below are two keys to making sure your site appears in Knowledge Graph results. Implement structured data and rich snippets. Structured data allows Google to organize the information on your website and deliver it in rich snippets that help you stand out from the competition. Claim your Google+ and Google Places for Business pages. This gives you greater control over what the search engine reads and displays to users, such as images, hours, current menus, rates and promotions.

Social Signals Matter

The year started off with the release of Facebook Graph Search, which delivers personalized results based on social connections. This personal application for big data blends social, local, content, and business information into search results and offers another opportunity for marketers to engage with their customers. With the release of Hummingbird, it’s expected that social signals will have more of an impact on Google rankings. It’s already been shown that increasing engagement on Twitter can increase search rankings, and Google Plus profiles and pages have an impact on ranking as well. Authorship (with the rel=author tag) was introduced in 2011, and late this past summer both Facebook and Google announced author attribution with embedded posts.

Google Plus, whether it’s for personal or business use, is an important source of structured data that Google can easily embed in search results, and it should not be ignored. Social is part of SEO, not separate from it, and the best marketing programs will promote a synergy between search and social for a holistic content strategy. Below are some additional tips for getting the most out of social. Participate in Google Plus, Facebook, and Twitter, whether you’re a business or an individual. Here, I offer some specific suggestions for getting the most out of Facebook Graph search. If you’re a business, don’t forget about LinkedIn. Here are some tips for optimizing your LinkedIn company page.

The New Direction In SEO: Page-Centric Search

Perhaps the biggest shakeup of the year was Google’s move to 100% secure search in late September. Though most SEOs had been watching the steadily rising percentages next to Keyword (not provided) in their analytics reports, no one expected it to come so soon. Yet, the most forward-thinking marketers were prepared; they had already shifted to page-centric analytics. We actually anticipated the move towards 100% secure search early on and closely tracked its evolution. The switch to secure search concurrent with the announcement of Hummingbird is no coincidence. Hummingbird asks marketers to think more about the meaning of words on the page, and to create content around topics rather than keywords. After being trained by Panda’s systematic penalizing of low-quality content, marketers are now shown another doorway to quality in the direction Google sees search heading. Voice queries, question-based queries, and a greater emphasis on the meanings of words rather than the keyword itself — combined with information from rich snippets and social signals — mean Google can do a better job of helping searchers decide which link will provide the information they seek. With secure search, Google Webmaster Tools takes on new importance as it’s now the only source of keyword data from Google. While exact metrics on keyword traffic to the page are no longer available, integrating keyword impression and click data from Google Webmaster Tools with page-level performance offers a powerful tool for deciding which pages to focus on improving — based not only on their performance, but their potential.

Below are some additional actions to take in the face of secure search that will serve to solidify SEO best practices as you move your analytics focus to the page level. Understand your audience. Research who they are, what they are looking for in relation to your company and how they go about getting information. Personas are a great way to bring your audience to life and think about them beyond clicks and revenue. Optimize for multiple keywords. I mentioned synonyms above. Users are smart enough to know there’s more than one way to say the same thing, so a little variety in the words on your copy won’t turn them away and could help you rank better. Analyze the competitive landscape. Looking at who else ranks for your keywords can give you clues into what users are really looking for. Share of Voice tools help by giving you information about your competitors and showing you all the keywords their pages are ranking for.

Mobile Reaches The Majority

What comScore calls the “multi-platform majority” is now here: as of April 2013, more than half of US Internet users accessed the Web through both a mobile and a desktop device. Our own MobileShare report tells us that mobile traffic growth is outgrowing desktop traffic growth. In June, Google announced that mobile-friendly sites would be favored in the rankings, and this year it also published guidelines for creating mobile-friendly websites. Google wants searchers to be able to find the information they need on whatever device they happen to be using.

Local SEO Search | “Google Updates Sheets: Faster, More Powerful, and Works Off-Line”

Source      : Android Headlines
By               : Cory McNutt
Category  : Orlando Local SEO, Local SEO Search

Google just announced that their “not so famous” spreadsheet program, Google Sheets, has been rebuilt from the ground up.  Whether you do the family budget or running a business sized spreadsheet, the new Google Sheets will now handle your numbers faster, support larger spreadsheets, includes many new features, and now you can even work offline.

Google is constantly working to improve its MS Office wanna-be, QuickOffice, and even started to include it pre-installed with their latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. So starting with the Nexus 5, QuickOffice will be waiting for you when you power up your new Nexus device – and in every device subsequent with 4.4 KitKat installed. The timing is right to make a move on MS Office, as Microsoft is trying to push a cloud only version so you will have to pay a monthly fee to use it. By pre-installing QuickOffice and not charging a monthly fee, Google could win over the MS Office users that feel betrayed, especially if Google can improve their QuickOffice components, like they are doing with Sheets.

Sheets can now handle millions of cells, with scrolling, loading and calculations now blazing fast, even in the most complex of spreadsheets.  One new feature is unique to Google Sheets, called Filter Views – it allows you to quickly name, save and share different views of your data.  This will allow you to share only certain data to those that are on a need-to-know basis, without affecting how others may see it.

One of the most difficult tasks in spreadsheet can be getting a complex formula correctly formatted.  Google claims that if you are new to formulas or a whiz with complex functions, it is now easier than ever to set them up in Sheets. The new “function help” and examples will help guide you as you type – with highlights and coloring to spot and fix errors. Some other improvements is the ability of your text to automatically flow into the empty adjacent cells, with manual merge no longer needed. You can also format the cells so they show up in a particular color or style to help emphasize them. Not near an internet connection – no problem, just work with Sheets offline and make all of your necessary changes and when you reconnect to the internet and the cloud, all of your copies will sync and update automatically.

While the new version of Sheets will not be pushed out as a download quite yet, as Google wants to add a “small list of missing features,” you can still start using the new Sheets by going to the Google Drive settings and checking the box for “Try the new Google Sheets.”  Google will continue to add more features, such as colored tabs, custom number formatting, paste transpose, and more.

Local SEO Search | “Expanding from Local to National SEO with Google Trends”

Source     : Search Engine Watch
By              : Matt Morgan
Category : Orlando Local SEO, Local SEO Search

It’s no secret that Google Trends is an important research tool in search engine optimization marketing campaigns. The question is, how many people are using it to its fullest potential? The value of Google Trends goes way beyond its initial use for tracking keyword popularity and can actually take your SEO campaign to the next level. Many have already mastered their local SEO strategy and have no idea where to go from there to effectively rank in search engines on a national level. Instead of uselessly beating your head against a wall of competitors time and time again, take advantage of the regional information that Google Trends is giving you and begin working on multiple local campaigns that will serve to bump you into the desired national rankings you’ve been vying for.

Interest Over Time

Head over to Google Trends and enter a search phrase you’d like to rank for. Adjust the location to United States and select a suitable time frame for your industry. In this example, I’ve used “responsive web design” as my search phrase. The graph above shows the interest over time and represents how the phrase is trending. If the interest of your search phrase is declining, you should consider alternative phrases to target.

Regional Interest

Toggle to the City view to drill down to the local levels. This will show you the areas where your targeted search phrase has the most interest.

Related Searches

At the bottom of the page, Google Trends will show you top related searches and phrases with a rising interest. Should your targeted phrase show a decline in interest, this is a great place to get alternative suggestions.

How to Utilize This Data for SEO Campaigns

Most companies will target their surrounding areas. With this tool and data, you can target the areas with the highest interest to get the most out of your SEO efforts. Building out landing pages that target these areas and localizing your link building efforts will give you a better chance at achieving results. Applying Google Trends to your internet marketing campaign provides you the opportunity to broaden your SEO goals and become a nationwide contender in your industry. Obtaining a national online presence is no easy feat, but utilizing the regional information gathered from Google Trends and focusing on those locations should allow you to strengthen your SEO marketing campaign in no time and acquire those national rankings that recently seemed out of reach.
