FacebookFB -2.01% is making it easier to track conversations on the social network. On Monday, the company announced that it will begin to roll out an expansion to its search tool to make the content of status updates and posts searchable.
With the change, members will be able to use Facebook’s search tool, called Graph Search, to sift through posts, including the text of photo captions, comments, and check-ins, as long as the posts are available to them (such as public posts, or posts from friends). Facebook said it will first roll out the feature to a small group of users. Searching posts is currently only available on the Web version of Facebook.
The feature, which has been on Facebook’s roadmap since the company launched Graph Search earlier this year, is part of the Facebook’s aggressive campaign to become a more prominent player in the real-time conversation of the Web — an area rival Twitter has long claimed.
